GWGK: Implementing Cisco Voice Gateways and Gatekeepers

Course length: 5 Days | Tuition: $3295.00

This advanced Authorized Cisco course covers the in-depth and important topics needed to implement Cisco Voice Gateways and Gatekeepers in Enterprise or Service Provider environments with CallManager and Cisco Unity. Learn to install, configure, monitor, and troubleshoot Cisco voice gateways and gatekeepers in Enterprise installations in accord with the recommendations of Cisco's Solution Reference Network Design (SRND) for IP Telephony guides. Given a Voice over IP (VoIP) design, you will select an appropriate deployment model, correctly configure the gateways and gatekeepers (whether distributed or centralized), implement call plans, and decide how to implement the most commonly offered Service Provider or managed services applications, features, or implementation requirements.

Superior Hands-on Labs

This is a unique, real-world GWGK lab environment that teaches you how to build and test a sophisticated IP telephony network that you can use as a template for a real deployment, including fault-tolerant gatekeeper (gatekeeper clusters) and directory gatekeeper deployments. These GWGK hands-on labs have been enhanced to include a real dial plan and Class of Service for calling out to the PSTN, branch offices, and PBXs; fault-tolerant gatekeepers; and connections from multiple CallManager clusters to multiple gateways.

Voice network labs use the latest hardware and software.

  • Troubleshoot Cisco's new ISR routers: 2811s are used throughout the network
  • Gain experience with recent stable IOS release: 12.3.14T3
  • Configure CallManager 4.1.3
  • Explore router DSP configuration: PVDM2-32 cards in every 2811 router
  • Every router has 2xFXS, 2xFXO, and 2xT1 ports (PRI and T1-CAS) as well as serial ports for WAN connectivity
All IP telephony courses provide a simulated PSTN.
  • Every pod has internal and external phones
  • Build and test a real dial plan including:
    • 911
    • 3-digit service codes: 411, 511, etc.
    • 7-digit local numbers: 681-1901
    • 10-digit local numbers: 416-681-1901
    • 11-digit long distance numbers: 1-733-802-1901
    • International numbers: 011441902

And just like in a real network:

  • The same simulated PSTN is accessible through both PRI and FXO ports
  • The same simulated PSTN is accessible through all four clusters providing failover scenarios for bandwidth and connectivity problems
  • Different area codes are deployed at all sites (two per cluster)

We have the best Gatekeeper labs.

  • Connect your cluster to three others using fully meshed gatekeepers
  • Connect your cluster to three others using a fully fault-tolerant gatekeeper cluster model based on 4.1 SRND design
  • Enhance your gatekeeper deployment by deploying fault-tolerant directory gatekeepers based on 4.1 SRND design
  • Add H.323 gateways to the deployment in a challenge lab
  • Test calls between PBXs using gatekeeper-controlled routing

MGCP is deployed at HQ and H.323 at the branch.

  • Both HQ and Branch "A" routers have PRI and 2xFXO port connections to simulated PSTN
  • Deploy and test a complete dial plan for both protocols including failover from PRI to FXO ports for 911
  • Configure a comprehensive and testable dial plan including over 50 dial peers on H.323 router. This is a configuration you can take with you to use at your organization!
  • Deploy and test SRST on an MGCP-controlled router with supporting dial peers and Class of Restrictions (COR) to maintain routing and Class of Service in case of CCM failure
  • Deploy and test SRST on both H.323- and MGCP-controlled routers with COR to maintain Class of Service in case of CCM failure
  • Deploy and test COR on both routers

Configure connections to simulated PBXs via T1-CAS using MGCP at HQ and H.323 at Branch A.

  • 2 PBXs connected via multiplexer
  • Configure DSO-groups connecting to 2 different PBXs
  • Test calls from PBX to 911, service codes, local, long distance, and international numbers and test calls between PBXs using gatekeeper-controlled routing
